Reconstruct after the fire

Paul Philippot Heritage (ULB) and the Art Nouveau Network invite you to assist to the evening conferences “Reconstruct after the fire” which will take place on Tuesday 22 May 2018 at 18:30 at the auditorium Victor Bourgeois of the Faculty of Architecture La Cambre Horta ULB (Place Eugène Flagey 19, 1050 Brussels.

The reconstruction of architectural heritage severely destroyed after a fire, remains a particularity in the field of restoration. The violence of the destruction, the sense of injustice, the emotional trauma that follows any fire often induces to the necessity to reconstruct the property affected as soon as possible.
How to proceed when the resources are not enough? How to scientifically analyse the ruins? How to document a reconstruction? How can we remain faithful to what is no longer true?
Sarah McKinnon, responsible for the project of reconstruction of the Glasgow School of Art (1896) of Ch. R. Mackintosh, will explain to us the difficulties and challenges encountered after the dramatic fire of 2014.
Francis Metzger will present the reconstruction of Charle-Albert Castle that remained abandoned for a long time after two successive fires.

The aim of the “Apéros du patrimoine” is to bring together, for an evening and an aperitif, various actors in the restoration (architects, restaurateurs, craftsmen, entrepreneurs, students, art historians, guides, etc.) as well as the general public around the presentation of a significant restoration project in Belgium or abroad.
